Prepare for War

It is a fact that the U.S. military has always done best when prepared for war. Most experts agree that the many stunning successes during the Gulf War were related to our excellence in training, the growing ability for the various armed forces to work together in an integrated fashion and the quick access commanders have to information.

Military Command Center

Each of these facets of information technology form a hub of General Projection's capabilities to design and build military oriented training, briefing and command/control facilities.

Many people have grown concerned that the military with shrinking forces and budgets would not continue to invest in communication technologies, simulation and training. Yet, just the opposite has been true. Military leaders at every grade recognize the need and advantage to communicate efficiently and to command the most highly trained forces in the world.

Design

Design of the military system must include such key features as:

  • Screen size meeting MilStd1472 and industry minimums.
  • Resolution to meet or exceed source equipment such as PC's running Power Point.
  • Sound systems to support the reinforcement of the briefer's voice as well as the playback of media such as DVD's, VCR's, sound files, etc.
  • Acoustic and lighting considerations for the type of facility and its uses.

Typical Objectives (right from SOW's we have written):

  1. To provide the rapid dissemination of information to officers and staffs to maximize knowledge transfer and/ortraining as well as command decisions.
  2. To allow collaboration by executive-level officers from distant locations through the conferencing capabilities.
  3. To provide for distance learning and full video conferencing to support training and conferencing requirements
  4. To maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of limited resources by supporting automated user-friendly interfaces to new technologies.
  5. To provide a flexible, easy to upgrade system that provides room for expansion in order to support enhanced requirements.
  6. To minimize technical risk factors in the engineering and selection of equipment for the system.
  7. To provide interoperability and compatibility with other services, component commanders and commands.
  8. To maximize the integration of system capabilities (voice, video and data).

Design Resources
If you are in the process of designing a new facility or upgrade, visit our AV System Design section. In this we cover a variety of design topics and considerations as well as provide resources to some excellent design information sites. Also, visit our Vendor Support page for links to vendors of products that may fit your needs.

Many military facilities require furniture that will support the audiovisual and video conferencing needs of the project (such as smart lecterns, high-tech conference tables and teaching stations). Visit our Furnishing Design considerations page for more information on that subject.

Success Stories
General Projection has been asked to design and build literally hundreds of conference rooms, command centers, briefing facilities and VTC projects for every branch of the military. In addition to building several of the "worldwide command" centers, we've built the Joint Chief's briefing facility in the Pentagon, the Secretary of the Army's facilities in the Pentagon (see below) and similar projects at air force bases, navy installations and army bases around the world.

Briefing Facilities
The most basic capability desired for a multimedia or AV system in a military facility is the ability to brief. The intelligible transfer of information from the briefer to the audience in the key.

Prime Contractor Showcases/Customer Collaboration Centers
Companies that are in the high tech DoD industries or simply depend upon technologies to perform their roles and produce their products will often showcase their capabilities in customer-centric facilities which require significant, large-scale AV and video conferencing capabilities.

Test and Communications Centers
General Projection has developed a number of non-intrusive monitoring and cross-campus signal delivery systems (utilizing existing IP network infrastructure) that allows agencies to test systems prior to deployment to thMCTSSA, Camp Pendletone "warfighter". These non-intrusive capabilities are important in order for the test system to be "baseline" to what will actually be deployed. Installing monitoring applications on the system is not an option as this alters the state of the system so that it is no longer the same as will be provided to the soldier, sailor, airman or marine.

Tactical Debrief or Debriefing Stations and Systems
Air Force, Air National Guard, Navy and Army pilots have always had a challenge to perform debriefings from cockpit VTR recordings.

New Jersey Air National Guard F-16 patrols the skies.

General Projection has developed an approach to solve their problems and contain the entire solution in a deployable, user-friendly system.

Advanced Tactical Debriefing Systems

NEW: Controlling the entire debriefing environment (PCDS, ICADS ACSI, ACSI ADDS, etc.).

Conferencing Facilities
Most facilities today are built with the highest degree of flexibility possible. The majority of military customers consider the fact that their investment in briefing and presentation technology does not require much more budget in order to leverage these systems into video conferencing facilities. With our sophisticated software and hardware integration, the CODEC becomes nothing more than a "source" and "destination" to the overall system. This allows the same room to be used as a computer briefing facility, video conference room or both at the same time! We are seldom building "dedicated VTC" rooms any longer.

Command Centers
Command centers are the "super markets" of visual information systems. Every command center General Projection has built contains a large variety of conference facilities, command center rooms containing video walls, video conferencing centers and other rooms for multi media purposes. Generally command centers consist of at least two rooms (control center and command center room) and generally there are dozens including crisis management rooms, situation awareness rooms and conference and training facilities.
