Systems for Medical Facilities
"Happiness lies, first of all, in health."

"Telemedicine"

Today's medical buzzword is telemedicine. The ability to remotely diagnose or teach is a rapidly growing segment of the medical community. States have deployed entire telemedicine networks based on ISDN video conferencing.

The essential difference is the equipment that acts as "sources" and "destinations" within the more traditional multi media system. To a video conferencing codec though, a stethoscope is the same as a microphone...a microscope is the same as a VCR.

Often it is the networking between facilities is what sets a telemedical facility apart from a corporate video conferencing suite.

During the design of a facility intended to train medical personnel or for remote diagnostics/meetings, we focus on:

  • Quality of transmission for the information that will be sent back and forth.
  • Audio quality for intelligibility both locally and at the "far end."
  • Video resolution. The medical community demands the highest possible resolutions...especially for remote diagnostics.

Design Resources
If you are in the process of designing a new facility or upgrade, visit our AV System Design section. In this we cover a variety of design topics and considerations as well as provide resources to some excellent design information sites. Also, visit our Vendor Support page for links to vendors of products that may fit your needs.

Many medical and training facilities require furniture that will support the audiovisual and video conferencing needs of the project (such as custom conference tables, smart lecterns and teaching stations). Visit our Furnishing Design considerations page for more information on that subject.

Success Stories
General Projection has built numerous facilities for a large variety of medical-based facilities. Whether a VA medical center in West Palm Beach, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington or the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, we have designed and built for every conceivable telemedicine application.

Telemedicine

VA Medical Centers - Statewide telemedicine systems and network.

Medical TrainingCape Canaveral Hospital
A critical element of medical training is the resolution and quality of the images as they are shown to students (whether first year med school or physician/nurse refresher courses).

Cape Canaveral Hospital - Medical training and telemedicine systems.

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - Training auditoriums.

Robinswood Medical Center - Medical Training Center, Hagerstown, Maryland.

Patient Relations
An area of importance for health care organizations today is patient relations. To an extent, facilities compete for patients. Further, there is an increased sensitivity towards the education and communications with patients and their loved ones. To meet this need, many facilities are installing plasma displays in their lobbies and waiting areas as well as providing special channels of information to their patient areas or rooms.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center - Flexible AV signal delivery to all areas of the campus.
