Introduction The US Army War College (USAWC) is the Army's premier training facility for high level army officers (typically Colonel through General). This facility's task is the strategic training of the Army's highest commanders as well as those of our allies. The Strategic Wargaming Facility (SWF) contains one of the largest single visual information systems in the armed forces. The multi-million dollar capability allows for full simulation of strategic level scenarios, transmission of this information and other training sources throughout the facility and full, secure teleconferencing from the SWF military commands around the world. Becoming fully integrated and installed in 1993, General Projection worked on the program for almost two years.
The General Projection prime contracting teammate (E-Systems) was awarded this program with General Projection providing all of the engineering, integration, in-plant testing and full scale installation of all visual information components of the communication system. Design Divided into User Groups, the facility is actually six large systems tied together by a Visual Information network that allows reconfiguration at a moments notice. Each subsystem or "node" provides it's user group with full AV capability including Video Teleconferencing, Umatic 3/4" sources, VHS sources, Still Video production and display, Slide-to-Video conversion, Laser Disc sources and many other formats.

Each source and destination device along with all routing equipment is under fully-automated control by General Projection designed remote control systems. All nodes are linked by high-resolution fiber optic RGB/Video/Audio gateways which provide excellent signal quality and higher security. The unique security requirements of this facility required meeting all government specifications for DIAM 50-3 and 50-4 as well as Red/Black considerations. System functionality meets or exceeds all MilStd 1473D and MANPRINT requirements espoused by the DOD. Each node and user group has the ability to isolate itself when appropriate for the security level of the communications. Depending on the user group the node can operate at any level from Unclassified to TS/SCI. Success Since coming on line in 1995, the Strategic Wargame Facility (now referred to as the Center for Strategic Leadership) has provided the Army with tremendous flexibility in how it trains senior level officers. Like their soldiers being trained in tank and helicopter simulators, the field grade officers can send units into battle with immediate feedback dozens of times before anyone is actually committed. With the addition of command/control and video conferencing capabilities, this facility will remain one of the premier military information systems in the world.
