Introduction After building a number of systems for Johns Hopkins University and Medical Center, General Projection was given a contract to build the primary teaching auditoriums for the school. These were the Turner and Tighlman auditoriums. Design Both of these facilities are provided with high-end graphics projection systems (one is CRT based and the other is light valve) that are connected to Autopatch routing systems. These systems connect to various source media including international-standards VCR's, S-VHS VCR's, CD players, cassette decks, etc. All equipment, routing and display systems as well as the lighting in the auditoriums are controlled by AMX remote control equipment. The classrooms both have amphitheater style JBL speaker systems and Crown amplifiers.
The larger auditorium's amplifier rack is remotely located and controlled by the head-end system. Sophisticated auto-mixers handle audio and microphones located within the rooms. The systems also interconnect to each other and to the John's Hopkins television studios to provide "distance learning" capabilities.

Success The systems are used both night and day to provide both local and remote interactive classroom environments. As the John's Hopkins systems are upgraded around campus, they will provide the same level of interconnectivity and interactivity as Tighlman and Turner. Subsequent to this success, General Projection has built and installed several more smart classrooms and distance learning facilities at JHU as well as the Medical School's Board of Directors Room.
