Introduction

General Projection Systems was awarded this contract to provide the briefing systems for the Secretary at both the famous marble auditorium at the main headquarters building as well as the smaller auditorium at the South Building.

Design

This project included high brightness light valve projection systems, complete sound system, remote control, wireless audio, basic video and audio production and teleconferencing capabilities.

Remotely operated camera systems allow the briefings and meetings to be archived or distributed. Press feeds were provided to allow television and print medias the ability to record or disseminate both the visual and audio portions of the events.

All installation plans presented by General Projection had to be approved by the local representative for Historical Preservation as these buildings are protected under those laws. General Projection was commended for its ability to integrate a complex video, sound and AV conferencing system into a historical facility with minimal impact on its aesthetics.

Similar requirements were placed on General Projection when it was asked to design and build presentation systems in the Main Hall at West Point.

Success

The Secretary of the Interior and senior DOI officials now regularly utilize these systems for large and small forum briefings and conferences. The Secretary is now able to conduct interactive meetings and conferences (both with local and remote audiences) through the use of General Projection designed control capabilities and concealed microphones and cameras.

Audiences receive more intelligible information in the older facilities than ever before with very little impact on the historical nature of the buildings. Truly this project was able to match aesthetics, acoustics and technology in such a way as to be functional as well as tasteful.
